111 1.06 <br /> • (2) Gender--Singular and Plural . Every word in this <br /> Code expressing the masculine gender shall extend to and be applied <br /> to females as well as males; and every word expressing the plural <br /> number shall extend and be applied to one person or thing as well <br /> as to several persons or things . <br /> ( 3) Tenses . The use of any verb in the present tense <br /> shall include the future when applicable, and the use of any verb <br /> in the future tense shall include the present when applicable. <br /> (4) Heretofore and Hereafter. Whenever the word <br /> "heretofore" occurs in any section of the Code, it shall be <br /> construed to mean any time previous to the day when the Code became <br /> effective, or if contained in a provision adopted after that date <br /> it shall be construed to mean the date when said provision took <br /> effect; and whenever the word "hereafter" occurs it shall be <br /> construed to mean the time after the provision containing such word <br /> takes effect. <br /> (5) Title Headings; Cross-Reference. All chapter, <br /> section, subdivision and paragraph headings and titles shall not <br /> be considered a part of the subject matter of this Code but are <br /> intended for convenience only and not necessarily as comprehensive <br /> • titles . Cross-reference material, similarly, shall not be <br /> considered a part of the substance of this Code, but is included <br /> to expedite and simplify the use of the Code. <br /> Subdivision 2 . Additional Rules -- Minnesota Statutory <br /> Rules of Construction. In addition to the rules of construction <br /> contained in Subdivision 1 of this section, the rules and canons <br /> of construction, presumptions and miscellaneous provisions <br /> pertaining to construction contained in Minnesota Statutes Chapter <br /> 645 governing statutory construction are hereby adopted by <br /> reference and made a part hereof as if fully set forth herein.
