. MEMORANDUM
TO: PLANNING COMMISSION
FROM: PAUL HARRINGTON, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
DATE: July 15, 1994
SUBJECT: VARIANCE, 5064 IRONDALE ROAD
ROGER MILLER, PLANNING CASE NO. 393-94
Roger Miller has made application for a variance to allow concrete
steps within a City of Mounds View Right-of-Way. The Mounds View
Municipal Code does not allow improvements by private parties in
any portion of a City owned and maintained R-O-W. The steps
requested have already been installed at the subject property, 5064
Irondale Road. Attached for your consideration is a letter
provided by Mr. Miller outlining the reasons for the variance.
I have spoken with the Director of Public Works regarding this
issue and he feels that the steps, as currently located, could pose
• a problem for snow removal, potential utility work in that area and
overall liability to the City in the event a vehicle leaves the
improved driving surface and hits the steps. An alterative would
be to move the steps back onto the applicants property and have
only a concrete walk leading to the road - this would be acceptable
to the Director of Public Works because it is similar to a driveway
setup.
I have included all materials received as part of this application
for your review.
•
