Mounds View City Council June 27, 2005 Regular Meeting Page 30 1 Council Member Stigney stated that in reading the report on the cable problems the city is having 2 at the community center for a report it didn’t impact a lot of knowledge but there was a lot of 3 buck passing. He stated that if there was anything remised it should have been checked out first 4 instead of pointing fingers. He stated that he received a number of comments from residents 5 stating that the cable company never told anyone that it wasn’t going to be broadcasted; it just 6 kept doing the same thing. He stated that the cable tech should have put something up on the 7 screen that said they were having technical difficulties. 8 9 City Administrator Ulrich explained that he also posed this question and the response he received 10 was that they were set up at the community center to do a live broadcast and had all of the techs 11 at the community center doing the taped broadcast. He stated that the tech would have had to 12 come back to City Hall to put up the broadcast notice and they were too short-handed to do it. 13 14 Mayor Marty referenced the City Hall renovation and asked if they would be able to use cable 15 funds for the cable room, the rooftop air conditioner and other items being done in that room. 16 17 City Administrator Ulrich stated that this was brought up before and has been listed as a revenue 18 source for the project. 19 20 B. Staff 21 1. City Administrator Ulrich - Finance Director Position 22 23 City Administrator Ulrich stated that they have interviewed two candidates for the Finance 24 Director position. He noted that staff would schedule interviews next week with Council and 25 also perform the background checks, with the intent to present the results to Council for 26 consideration at the July 11, 2005 meeting. 27 28 Mayor Marty noted that in one of the interviews today he asked one of the candidates about 29 looking into software noting that Mr. Hansen had indicated that the software the city is using is 30 antiquated and not user friendly. He stated that this candidate stated that he was involved in 31 getting new software at his current job and also expressed that they had gone through the City of 32 Roseville using their providers. He stated that the candidate indicated that it was a tremendous 33 cost savings but would have to get the licensing. He stated that he knew they would be 34 discussing the IP telephone system noting that it would be a possibility for getting a software 35 program that would save the city a lot of money. He stated that he thought this was interesting 36 noting that the candidate was relatively knowledgeable about it. He noted that the candidate 37 indicated that the City of Roseville is doing other cities with this and was wondering how much 38 more Roseville could take on noting that one of the really good cost benefits was that if they had 39 a problem Roseville’s rates would be much more affordable than an outside support group.
