LLP, is requesting a variance in the City Sign Code to allow a center identification sign for Mounds View Square which exceeds the area and height requirements, and monument signs at the driveway entrances on Highway 10 and at the intersection of Long Lake Road and Highway 10. Petitioner: Mounds View Assoc. It will span the highway just west of Long Lake Road. The applicant is concerned that the bridge will obscure the identification sign for the shopping center. The City is endeavoring to obtain an easement from the applicant for the ramp. The applicant is reluctant to grant such an easement without the City addressing the possible obstruction to the visibility of the shopping center which might be created by the bridge. Staff suggested to the applicant that they apply for a variance based on a visual simulation of the bridge and its relation to the shopping center identification sign. This report serves as a supplement to the staff report prepared for your October 9, 1996 and November 6 meeting.
