• City of Mounds View Staff Report
November 5, 1997 Planning Commission Meeting
Item No. 5c
Staff Report No. PC97-1
Item Title/Subject: Update of the City's Comprehensive Plan
BACKGROUND
As you all may be aware, cities in the twin cities metropolitan area are required by state
law to update their comprehensive plans and submit them to the Metropolitan Council for
review by December 31, 1998. At the November 5, 1997 meeting I would like to begin
discussing the process of updating Mounds View's comprehensive plan. Specifically, I
would like to review what a comprehensive plan is, the role of the planning commission in
the development and maintenance of the plan, the required elements of the plan, and the
status of the process to update Mounds View's Comprehensive Plan.
I have attached copies of sections of the Metropolitan Council's Local Planning Handbook
,; which outline the required and optional elements which need to be included in the
Comprehensive Plan.
I have also attached copies of documents which were originally prepared by Pam Sheldon.
These documents outline a process to complete the update of the plan by the end of 1998.
While some of the items are in process, we are about 2 months behind at this point.
I would anticipate that there will be items related to the comprehensive plan update on
most of the Planning Commission agendas from now until December of 1998. I think this
will be an exciting and informative process.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Community Development staff recommends that the Planning Commission review and
discuss the attached materials and confirm the Comprehensive Plan update process.
Staff report by: Rick Jopke, 717-4021
Attachments: Met Council guidelines on required elements, work plan
•
N:\DATA\GROUPS\CO M D EV\P LA N CO MM\11-5-9 7 P.R PT
