i
Staff Memo
To: Economic Development Commission Members
From: Cathy Bennett, Economic Development Coordinator
Date: October 20, 1994
Agenda Item: Consideration of Resolution No. EDC94-3, Supporting
(5c.) Kinder Care's request for a sign variance.
Kinder Care, located on the corner of Highway 10 and Hillview Road, is currently
located in a residentially zoned district. Through the retention interview, the
executive director expressed the need for a sign on highway 10 but knew that signs
• were prohibited in residential districts. There have been several complaints from
Kinder Care's customers that the location is very difficult to find since there is a lack
of adequate signage. This potentially causes a safety hazard due to the heavy traffic
on Highway 10, especially during the rush hour when Kinder Care's customers are
dropping off children.
It was suggested to Kinder Care that they request a variance from the planning
commission for a sign in this location. I have sent a letter to Kinder Care regarding
the dates of submission and meetings of the planning commission. In discussion with
Chairman Welsch, it was suggest that the EDC prepare a resolution in support of
Kinder Care's variance to be forwarded to the planning commission once the item is
place on their agenda.
I have prepared a draft resolution for you review on Thursday.
•
