Consideration of Resolution No. EDC94-3, Supporting Kinder Care's request for a sign <br /> variance. <br /> Coordinator Bennett reported that Kinder Care is seeking a variance from the sign <br /> ordinance and suggested that the Commission consider a resolution supporting this <br /> request. Commissioner Seipp questioned whether it is the Commission's role to make <br /> this kind of recommendation since the charge of the Commission is long range <br /> planning. The consensus of Commission members was that signage is a business <br /> development issue should be address as a whole for all businesses. The sign ordinance <br /> needs to be updated with input from the business community on what works with <br /> signage. No recommendation was made on this item. <br /> D. Consideration of Small Business Person of the Year. <br /> Motion/Second: Seipp/Malone that: <br /> whereas, the City of Mounds View has been requested to nominate a candidate for U.S. Small <br /> Business Administration's 1995 Small Business Person of the Year, the Mounds View Business <br /> Association shall be encouraged to establish some means of honoring individual business <br /> people so that a qualified candidate can be nominated for 1996. <br /> 7 ayes 0 nays <br /> Motion Carried <br /> 6. Other Business <br /> Hotel Proposals: Coordinator Bennett reported that two preliminary proposals for the construction of <br /> hotels/conference centers have surfaced. Commission members agreed that there is a need for a <br /> hotel/conference center in the area from both the business and resident perspective. Coordinator <br /> Bennett was directed to pursue and research both proposals. <br /> Report on North Metro Business Retention and Development Program: Coordinator Bennett reported <br /> that there are a total of 166 businesses in Mounds View. A total of 79 companies have completed the <br /> retention survey. Coordinator Bennett gave a brief overview of some of the findings from the surveys <br /> completed and the breakdown of the business community. <br /> 7. Reports From Chair and Commissioners: <br /> Discussion was held on the next step for the Commission. For the next meeting Coordinator Bennett <br /> will evaluate the financial side of the business retention survey, get facts on funds available for business <br /> retention projects and more background data on financial needs of Mounds View businesses. <br /> 2 <br />
