Mounds View City Council September 12, 2005
Regular Meeting Page 24

Mayor Marty noted some Mounds View families have welcomed victims of Hurricane Katrina. 1
The City Administrator stated some mayors and Staff members have talked about what role 2
Youth and Family Services would play in relocation if anyone has a transition family located in 3
one of the communities. It is felt they will play a major role in that transition process. 4
5
Mayor Marty commended Jeremiah Anderson for stepping forward to serve. 6
7
Mayor Marty stated some in the community are giving golf course employees a hard time. He 8
noted they will be out of a job soon and urged everyone to support them for doing their job. 9
10
B. Reports of Staff 11
12
City Administrator Ulrich announced a meeting of the Active Living Council, which supports 13
walkable communities and is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield, will be held at the New 14
Brighton Family Services Center on September 29, 2005 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and 15
encouraging attendance. He explained this is important because in discussions with County 16
about the stoplight, they mentioned that Blue Cross Blue Shield may sponsor a grant for 17
improving walkablility of the community. 18
19
City Administrator Ulrich advised that the I-35W Coalition passed a resolution stating they want 20
to focus their efforts on transportation needs in the corridor for two years. This is important 21
because some communities dropped out when they felt the Coalition lost focus by getting 22
involved in other areas. This resolution brings the Coalition back to its roots to focus on the 23
corridor. 24
25
City Administrator Ulrich reported the New Brighton Police Department received the Safe and 26
Sober Grant. 27
28
City Administrator Ulrich stated the YMCA is now on line with new recreational software that 29
allows residents to check on program availability and pay for programs on line. Councilmember 30
Thomas asked if the YMCA is linked to the City’s web site. City Administrator Ulrich answered 31
in the affirmative. 32
33
City Administrator Ulrich stated Staff attended a meeting with the Rice Creek Watershed District 34
that involved all member cities. The group talked about establishing a technical advisory 35
committee to help assure consistent enforcement of rules. He noted tens of thousands of dollars 36
have been spent by cities at the direction of the Watershed District to improve storm water 37
systems. Discussion occurred about using their levy for extraordinary costs related to storm 38
water management when it impacts the benefit of the broader district. 39
40
Mayor Marty stated Staff met with County Commissioners Bennett and Parker and will be 41
holding a follow up meeting with him to explore different options for stop lights at Silver Lake 42
Road and County Road H and then will look at funding options. 43
44
