Item No: 8A <br />Type of Business: Consent Agenda <br />Meeting Date: December 12, 2005 <br />Administrator Review: _____ City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Mike Sommer, Police Chief <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 6685 Authorizing the Purchase of Office <br />Equipment for the Police Department for the Renovation <br />Project <br />Date of Report: December 12, 2005 <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />The Police Department and City Hall renovation Project is currently underway. The Police <br />Department submitted a line item for miscellaneous office equipment in the 2005 budget to <br />help fund a portion of some of the purchases of office furniture and other equipment for this <br />project. This budget item was approved for the 2005 budget. As you may recall from tours, of <br />the Police Department, most of the office furniture and equipment within the Police <br />Department was acquired after it was discarded from another department or purchased used <br />after it was deemed no longer useful by the agency disposing of it. Nearly all of the office <br />chairs and other office equipment used by The Mounds View Police Patrol Officers and <br />Minnesota State Troopers stationed at the Mounds View office is stained, broken, <br />mismatched and have mechanisms that are not working. The side or guests chairs are in <br />similar condition. <br /> <br />The Police Department has contacted office furniture businesses that carry the state bid for <br />office furniture and equipment sales. The Police Department searched for seating that was <br />value priced, and durable for use in a Police Department setting. Hendrickson P. S. G. <br />workspace solutions for government and nonprofits carries the Minnesota State contract bid <br />for office furniture seating. The state bid price for a durable office task chair the Trooper Mid <br />Back Armless, is $242.35. State bid price for a durable side chair, the Tolleson armless, side <br />chair is $146.15, and the state bid price for a KI Piretti Stack break room chair is $160. <br />Police Department recommends purchasing 14 task chairs, 12 side chairs, and three break <br />room chairs for total of $5,992.44. This purchase was planned for and approved in the 2005 <br />Police budget. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Staff recommends council approve the purchase of the office equipment out of the 2005 <br />Police budget in the amount of $5,992.44 <br /> ___________________________ <br />Mike Sommer <br />Police Chief
