Item No: 8C <br />Meeting Date: December 12, 2005 <br />Type of Business: Consent Agenda <br />Administrator Review: _____ City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Mike Sommer, Police Chief <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 6689 Authorizing the City to Participate in a <br />County Wide Hazard Mitigation Planning Process <br />Date of Report: December 12, 2005 <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />The County of Ramsey Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security is <br />participating in the all-hazard mitigation planning process as established under the Disaster <br />Mitigation Act of 2000 Pub. L. 106-390. This act requires that all cities develop and maintain <br />all-hazard mitigation plans either independently or on a County wide multijurisdictional basis. <br />These plans must be well integrated and coordinated to account for the fact that hazards in <br />one jurisdiction impact on other nearby jurisdictions. <br /> <br />The Ramsey County Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security has <br />indicated its willingness to coordinate these efforts by drafting the plan which will be shared <br />with all municipalities in Ramsey County. All cities in Ramsey County have or will be <br />adopting this plan. <br /> <br />It is necessary to adopt this plan in order for the city of Mounds View and the County of <br />Ramsey to be eligible to receive hazard mitigation Grant program (HMGP) project grants. <br /> <br /> <br />Recommendation <br /> <br />Staff recommends council approve the resolution authorizing our participation in the <br />countywide hazard mitigation planning process. <br /> <br /> ___________________________ <br />Mike Sommer <br />Police Chief
