Item No.08H <br />Meeting Date: December 12, 2005 <br />Type of Business: CA <br />City Administrator Review _______ <br /> City of Mounds View Staff Report <br /> <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Desaree Crane, Administrative Assistant <br /> <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 6692 Authorizing Severance Payment for Mary <br />Burg <br />Background <br />Mary Burg was hired by the City as a Golf Course Manager on December 23, 2002. Due to the <br />golf course redevelopment, a layoff notice was hand carried to Mary Burg on October 27, 2005. <br /> <br />Discussion <br />The City Council adopted a severance package for all three regular full-time golf course <br />employees on August 22, 2005, with the passage of Resolution 6585. This resolution allowed <br />payout of vacation and sick leave in accordance with the current personnel policy, and allowed <br />accumulated flex-time to be used by employees. The Council also determined that there be <br />additional severance pay of one week per year of service, which is also outlined in Resolution <br />6585. <br />Layoff Notices were hand carried to all three full-time golf course employees on October 27, 2005. <br />Their last day of employment for all three golf course employees was Thursday, November 10, <br />2005 at 430pm. <br />Mary Burg used her accumulated flex-time per Resolution 6585, and her last day on payroll was <br />December 8, 2005. Section 4.25D of the Personnel Manual indicates that an employee will be <br />compensated for accrued vacation time and 50% of accrued sick leave. <br />Below is her severance package in accordance of Section 4.35 of the Personnel Manual and <br />Resolution 6585: <br /> <br /> Mary Burg <br /> <br /> Hourly Rate: $34.34/hour <br /> <br />Vacation: 231.79 hours X $34.34 = $7,959.67 <br /> Sick:: 193.91 hours X 50% X $34.34 = $3,329.61 <br /> 2-Year Severance: 80 hours X $34.34 = $2,747.20 <br /> <br /> Total Severance: $14,036.48 <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends severance payment for Mary Burg in accordance with Section 4.35D of the <br />City’s Personnel Manual and Resolution 6585. <br /> <br />
