Item No: 10D
Meeting Date: July 12, 2004
Type of Business: Council Business
City Administrator Review: _____
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Mounds View City Council
From: Kristin Prososki, Planning Associate
Item Title/Subject: Appoint Council Representatives to the I-35W Visioning
Task Force

Introduction:

Mn/DOT is beginning a visioning process to plan for potential future changes to Interstate
35W; specifically for the closing and improving of some of the Interstate 35W
interchanges between Interstate 694 and State Highway 10. Mn/DOT has expressed a
desire to include the Cities that are directly affected by the potential changes in the
planning process.

Discussion:

Council Member Gunn and I attended a Joint Council Work Session for the cities of
Mounds View, Arden Hills and New Brighton, at which Mn/DOT began explaining some of
the potential changes to Interstate 35W. The improvements that were discussed at the
Joint Council Work Session would not occur for many years, if ever, but it is important that
the Cities affected by the changes be included early in the planning process. Before the
close of the meeting, it was determined that for future planning meetings it may be best to
form a task force made up of Council Members and a Staff Member from each City. It
was mentioned that the Task Force could be comprised of two Council Representatives
and one Staff Representative from Mounds View, Arden Hills and New Brighton. In
addition, the City of Shoreview was invited to join the Task Force and it was suggested at
the June 28, 2004 Mounds View City Council meeting that the City of Spring Lake Park
be invited also.

Recommendation:

Appoint two members of the Council to represent Mounds View on the Task Force.

Respectfully submitted,

Kristin Prososki
Planning Associate
