A D M I N I S T R A T O R ’S D I G E S T <br />July 12, 2004 <br /> <br /> <br />Fire Department Capital Equipment Planning – A joint Council meeting of Blaine, Mounds View <br />and Spring Lake Park is now scheduled for Thursday, July 22, 2004 at Blaine City Hall. <br />Springstead, Inc. financial consultants and staff will be presenting options for financing the Fire <br />Department’s capital plan. <br /> <br />Labor Negotiations – The Public Works collective bargaining group met and discussed their <br />contract proposal. It is scheduled for discussion at a meeting tonight on the executive session <br />agenda. <br /> <br />A carpet professional reviewed the carpet in the Banquet Center to determine whether new or <br />restored carpet offers the best value. Two weeks ago, a trial section was cleaned and looked <br />promising, except some of the worst stains continue to show. An additional, larger trial section is <br />being tried prior to deciding to recommend the new carpet option. Carpet replacement cost, with <br />removal, will likely exceed $30,000. <br /> <br />Street and Sidewalk Projects – I toured a variety of street and sidewalk improvement project <br />(present and future) with City Engineer Greg Lee. This is a busy year and things will get busier <br />with the 2003 street improvement project. <br /> <br />Customer Service was the topic of discussion at a meeting held between Administrative <br />Assistants and Department Heads from all departments. The focus was on providing outstanding <br />counter and telephone service for those that call or visit City Hall. <br /> <br />Innovative Images – A meeting was held with Mayor Linke and the Attorney to discuss the status <br />of claims arising from a previously submitted letter and a subsequent Attorney General’s opinion. <br />This item is on the Council agenda to determine if the Council wishes to enter into negotiations <br />regarding a previous Banquet Center contract. <br /> <br />Rice Creek Water Shed District rules and regulations were discussed among staff. It was decided <br />that Mounds View would initiate a meeting of all local jurisdictions within the watershed district <br />and follow-up with meetings of developer interests, RCWSD officials, and elected representatives <br />as warranted. <br /> <br />Low Carbs and More open its doors for business with a ribbon cutting and open house last Friday. <br />City and Chamber representatives were in attendance to welcome this new business to our <br />community. <br /> <br />Vacation Plans, I’ll be out of the office the week of July 26th–30th on a family vacation in South <br />Dakota.
