City staff recently received additional information
about Shoreview's Farmers' Market, which is run by the City of Shoreview.
Information
• City staff recently spoke at length to Lesley Young, Recreation Programs Coordinator
for the City of Shoreview. Ms. Young is employed part-time (30 hours a week) by the
Shoreview Parks and Recreation Department and spends two-thirds of her time
managing Shoreview's farmer's market.
History
Shoreview's market began ten years ago when a Shoreview resident approached the
City of Shoreview asking to sell vegetables from her garden in the City Hall parking lot.
Location/Size
Shoreview's market is located in the Shoreview City Hall lower parking lot. The market
has grown to 45-50 vendors, which is the largest farmer's market in the area (next to
Maple Grove) excluding Minneapolis and St. Paul. Ms. Young said the average size of
a farmer's market is 10-30 vendors.
Timeframe/Length
Shoreview's market occurs every Tuesday from 3-7pm lasting from July through
October each year. Ms. Young works twelve-hour days on Tuesdays during the
farmer's market season.
•
