<br />Item #: 5B <br />Meeting Date: Sept. 27, 2013 <br />Type of Business: EDC <br />Administrator Review : ____ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To: Economic Development Commission <br />From: Heidi Steinmetz, Economic Development Specialist <br />Item Title/Subject: Continue Food Truck Discussion <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br />On August 16th, Assistant City Administrator Desaree Crane provided the EDC with <br />information about mobile food trucks operating in Mounds View. EDC members also <br />received informational packets regarding how other cities regulate food trucks. <br /> <br />At the time of the August 16th EDC meeting, there were two mobile food trucks authorized <br />to do business in Mounds View. One business is Ricos Tacos El Paisa, which was <br />authorized to move its location between Tires & More and ABC Liquor. The other business <br />is Los Primos Tacos, which was authorized to move its location between the BP gas <br />station and Vino & Stogies. <br /> <br />Currently, Los Primos Tacos is authorized to move its location between Sam’s Market and <br />and The Station. <br /> <br />Discussion <br />City staff has received the following two inquiries from two Mounds View (non-restaurant) <br />businesses owners about food trucks operating in Mounds View: <br /> <br />1) How do existing Mounds View restaurants feel about food trucks operating in <br />Mounds View? <br /> <br />2) Do food trucks create unfair competition between fixed structure restaurants that <br />pay property taxes in the City of Mounds View? <br /> <br />City staff has not received any food truck inquiries or complaints from Mounds View <br />restaurants. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />City staff recommends that the EDC continue their food truck discussion and provide input <br />to the EDA/City Council regarding this matter. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />____________________________ <br />Heidi Steinmetz, Economic Development Specialist
