Item #: 5B
Meeting Date: November 17, 2017
Type of Business: EDC

City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Economic Development Commission
From: Brian Beeman, Business Development Coordinator
Item Title/Subject: Review Applications to the Economic Development
Commission, Make Appointment Recommendations to the
EDA

Background:
The Economic Development Commission is comprised of seven members—three
business representatives and four resident representatives. Each member serves a
three year term which are staggered to ensure continuity of service.

The terms of Jessica Rieland and Dennis Farmer expire December 31, 2017 leaving
one Business and one Resident Representative opening. Both openings are for the
term starting January 1, 2018 and ending December 31, 2020.

Discussion:
After posting notice online, through social media, the Cable TV channel, and in the City
newspaper, applications were received from Dennis Farmer who is reapplying for the
Resident Representative opening and Mr. Kenneth Breske. Mr. Farmer has been an
EDC member since 2017 and is an employee at the Metropolitan Council. Mr. Breske is
applying for the Business Representative opening and is employed at a business that is
technically in the City of Blaine but across the street from Mounds View. Breske is a
resident of Mounds View. Both applicants appear to meet the requirements per EDC
policy and by-laws.

Recommendation:
Review the applications and make a motion recommending to the EDA to appoint one
Business and one Resident Representative to the EDC with terms beginning January 1,
2018 and expiring December 31, 2020.

________________
Brian Beeman
Business Development Coordinator

Attachments:

1. Applications from Dennis Farmer and Kenneth Breske.
