Mounds View EDA October 12, 2009
Regular Meeting Page 2

message sign located at City Hall and to paint the remainder of the sign. It was noted that 21,600 44
cars travel past this sign each day. Economic Development Specialist Steinmetz advised that one 45
of the sign companies rescinded their quote when they learned the City selected a different 46
company to create the Council Chambers wall sign. She presented the quotes received from 47
Spectrum Sign Systems and JDI Signs and Graphics. 48
49
Commissioner Mueller referenced the image proposed by JDI Signs and Graphics and asked 50
whether the words “City Hall” can be made smaller so they are not larger than the words 51
“Mounds View.” Economic Development Specialist Steinmetz advised that such changes could 52
be made by either vendor. Staff suggested removing “Community Center” and including 53
“Police” since the Police Department is located in the City Hall building. Commissioner Mueller 54
stated she likes the way the logo is positioned. 55
56
Commissioners Gunn, Mueller, and Hull supported adding the word “Police.” Vice President 57
Stigney pointed out that if “Police” is added, “Mounds View” would have to be in a small size. 58
The EDA discussed options for sign lettering. 59
60
Executive Director Ericson agreed the lettering size would have to be quite small if “Police” is 61
included. President Flaherty suggested the vendor be asked to create a rendering of how it would 62
look. 63
64
Vice President Stigney supported white lettering, a blue background, and a green tree, as used 65
with corridor signs. 66
67
Commissioner Gunn stated the colors for Mounds View High School are green and white but she 68
has no preference either way for the background color. Commissioners Mueller and Hull stated 69
their support for the green and white color scheme. Economic Development Specialist Steinmetz 70
stated several color schemes were included in the last meeting packet and can be presented again. 71
72
President Flaherty liked a green and white color scheme with the word “Police” included under 73
“City Hall.” 74
75
Executive Director Ericson suggested the EDA act on the resolution and ask the sign vendor to 76
present different sign renderings. 77
78
MOTION/SECOND: Gunn/Mueller.
