Item No: 10G(2)
Meeting Date: November 22, 2004
Type of Business: CB
Administrator Review: _____
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Desaree Crane, Administrative Assistant
Item Title/Subject: Discuss the Possibility of City Council to put a Question on the
Ballot for the Special Election

Staff was advised of the possibility of putting a question on the Ballot for the Special
Election on February 1, 2005. According to Minn. Stat. 205.16, subd. 4, a written notice
of the approved ballot question must be to the county auditor 53 days before the date of
the upcoming election. Staff would need an approved ballot question from the City
Attorney and the City Council before December 10, 2004. The approved written ballot
must be on the County Auditor’s desk by close of business on December 10, 2004.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends that if the Council chooses to put a question on the ballot, then Staff
and Council must act quickly. After today (November 22nd), we have 18 days to come
up with an approved ballot question. These 18 days include weekends and holidays
(Thanksgiving).

Respectfully submitted,
Desaree Crane
