Mounds View City Council February 10, 2003
Regular Meeting Page 20

1
Council Member Marty indicated the profit went to the YMCA to pay for kids who could not afford 2
youth programs. He then said that they had begun working with the YMCA and former golf course 3
manager to establish a golf program for kids. 4
5
Council Member Quick asked if the monies from the golf tournament last year went to the City of New 6
Brighton. 7
8
Golf Course Manager Burg indicated that last year New Brighton was paid for its greens fees but did 9
not get any additional money from the tournament. 10
11
Council Member Quick asked where the profits come from. 12
13
Mayor Linke explained that the tournament pays $15.00 for a round of golf but the Festival charges 14
$20.00 or 25.00 and that is where the profit comes from over and above the costs of the tournament. 15
16
Council Member Marty indicated the golf course would make money as all of the tee times are filled as 17
well as use of the driving range and purchasing of beverages. 18
19
Council Member Quick asked whether profits go into the Festival. 20
21
Council Member Marty indicated that the funds were earmarked for kids programs through the 22
YMCA. 23
24
Council Member Gunn indicated that was an executive committee decision as the Committee felt it was 25
putting something back into the community along with having the Festival. 26
27
Council Member Quick indicated that the City is putting money into the Festival and he thinks it is time 28
to revisit where the money from this tournament goes because he does not think the City can afford or 29
will be able to put any monies into the Festival this year. 30
31
Mayo r Linke indicated that there is $4,000 in the budget for the Festival. He then said that the Festival 32
organization is separate from the City. 33
34
Council Member Quick indicated he is not sure whether the City will have $4,000 to contribute to the 35
festival and it may be time to discuss where the profits of the golf tournament go. 36
37
Mayor Linke indicated the profits from the golf tournament are not the City’s to determine what to do 38
with. 39
40
