Item No. 6C <br />Type of Business: SB <br />WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing; <br />SB: Special Order of Business CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Greg Lee, Director of Public Works <br /> <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution No. 5986 Approving a Step Increase <br />for John Hughes of the Parks Division of the <br />Public Works Department <br /> <br />Meeting Date: April 14, 2003 <br /> <br />Background <br />On May 5, 1999 John Hughes was hired as a Public Works Seasonal Employee. <br />He worked as a seasonal employee in the Public Works Department until July 7, <br />2000 – a total of 1363 hours. <br /> <br />On July 13, 2000, John Hughes was hired as a regular full-time employee as the <br />Custodial Maintenance Employee for the Community Center in the Parks Division <br />of the Public Works Department. <br /> <br />Discussion <br />Mr. Hughes is a member of the Public Works Collective Bargaining Unit. As such, <br />Mr. Hughes is subject to the job classification system, as established in the Labor <br />Agreement with the City of Mounds View. Mr. Hughes is currently employed <br />at the Step 2 pay scale, which is $14.06 per hour. However, based on the criteria <br />set forth by the Labor Agreement with the Public Works Collective Bargaining <br />Unit and with time credited as a seasonal employee in Public Works, Mr. Hughes <br />is qualified to be at the Step 3 pay scale, which is $14.77 per hour. It should be <br />noted that these rates are based on agreed amounts for 2002. The Public Works <br />Collective Bargaining Unit is currently working with the City to update the Labor <br />Agreement for 2003 and 2004. <br /> <br />The Parks Foreman has met with Mr. Hughes and conducted a formal <br />performance review. Mr. Hughes meets or exceeds all of the job performance <br />requirements for his position. The Public Works Director and Parks Foreman <br />recommend that Mr. Hughes be approved for the step increase from Step 2 to <br />Step 3 as the Custodial Maintenance Employee for the Community Center in the <br />Parks Division of the Public Works Department. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
