3. Camcorder Options:

In recent years, digital camcorders have become much cheaper, and have more features.
After attending a trade show last year, and consulting with producers and enginee rs, along
with my own experience with camcorders, I found these three models to be the best choices:

Camcorder Option #1
Sony DSR-250
DVCAM Format
1/3” 3 CCD
12x Zoom Lens with Steady Shot
3 XLR audio inputs
iLink (DV) interface for digital capture
LANC interface for remote control use

Package:
VCTU-14 Tripod Adaptor, 2 BP-L40A Batteries
BCM-50 Battery Charger
LC-300SZ Soft Case, ECM-NV1 Microphone.

Additional equipment not in package: IA-60 60 Watt Power Supply

This camcorder is the only one of the three that is the DVCAM format. This is a more
professional and reliable format than Mini-DV. The package includes batteries and charger
but not a power supply. The 3 1/3 inch CCD pickups indicate the quality of the video picture.
Most non-professional camcorders have only 1 CCD. XLR Audio inputs are the professional
type for using microphones. Non-professional camcorders either have no audio inputs or
are RCA type. ILink, also known as IEEE 1394, is the digital cable that transfers high quality
video and audio to a computer or other digital tape deck. In the past, linear video and audio
connections were only available, which is inferior quality. LANC interface is used for remote
control. The package features everything needed for normal use, except the power supply.
The power supply would be desirable in cases where a longer shoot might drain the
batteries.

Camcorder Option #2
JVC GY-DV500U,
Mini-DV Format
½ “ 3 CCD
2 XLR Audio inputs
IEEE 1394 (DV) interface for capture
RS-232C interface for remote control use
Tripod Adaptor, Microphone

Package:
S14X7.3B12U Fujinon 14:1 lens
VF-P115BU 1.5-inch viewfinder
AB-PRODV battery system, CB-50U shipping case
