RESOLUTION 6011 <br /> <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPROVAL TO PROCEED WITH A GRANT <br />APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE UNIVERSAL HIRING <br />PROGRAM FOR TWO NEW POLICE OFFICERS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Justice is offering grants through its Community <br />Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office, called the Universal Hiring Program (UHP); and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the process for obtaining an award under this program is a competitive one, <br />based on need; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the UHP will allow for a total maximum of a $75,000 award spread over a <br />three year period, with a 25% local cash match, to subsidize the wages of new hires under this <br />program, so long as communities commit to retaining the new position(s) for one complete <br />budget cycle beyond the end of the funding period; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Mounds View Police Department has had, as an objective, the ability to <br />provide two officer coverage 24/7 under most circumstances; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, if successful in obtaining two addition officers under the UHP, the Mounds <br />View Police Department would attain said objective; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the deadline for the grant application is June 6, 2003. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mounds View City Council does <br />hereby authorize staff to proceed with a grant application to the Department of Justice Universal <br />Hiring Grant program, requesting an award for two new Police Officers. <br /> <br /> <br />Adopted this 12th day of May, 2003. <br /> <br /> <br /> _______________________________ <br /> Jerry Linke, Mayor <br /> <br />ATTEST <br /> _______________________________ <br />James Ericson, Acting City Clerk / <br />Administrator <br /> <br />(SEAL) <br /> <br />
