Item No: 09I <br />Meeting Date: July 14, 2003 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: James Ericson, Acting City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Consideration of Resolution 6062 Approving the Hire <br />of Kurt Ulrich to the Position of City Clerk / <br />Administrator <br /> <br />Introduction: <br /> <br />The city clerk / administrator position has been vacant since January 1, 2003. The City <br />Council sought proposals from professional search firms and recruitment professionals <br />before deciding to accept the assistance of the City of New Brighton staff to advertise and <br />review applications. Thirty-four applications were received. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />On May 19, 2003, the Council held a special meeting to review the top ten candidates and to <br />identify the finalists to interview. The five identified candidates were interviewed by the City <br />Council on June 14, 2003 and a special meeting was set for June 14 to discuss the <br />candidates and to determine the top finalist. Mr. Ulrich was chosen as the top candidate and <br />negotiations with Mr. Ulrich were initiated to establish Mr. Ulrich’s compensation package. <br />On July 10, 2003, Mr. Ulrich accepted the position and the terms of his employment as <br />articulated in the letter to Mr. Ulrich dated June 30, 2003. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Approve Resolution 6062, a resolution approving the hiring of Mr. Kurt Ulrich to fill the <br />position of City Clerk / Administrator with employment to begin July 17, 2003. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />_____________________________________ <br />James Ericson <br />Interim City Clerk/Administrator
