Mounds View City Council July 28, 2003 <br />Regular Meeting Page 12 <br /> <br />Council Member Stigney commented that one person called him about the issue and said that she 1 <br />cannot think of anyone that stayed in a bar an additional hour and ended up more sober when 2 <br />they walked out. Finance Department Quarterly Report 14 <br /> 15 <br />Finance Director Hansen indicated he had provided with his report a memo that highlights the 16 <br />report and it is followed by 46 pages of numbers. He then summarized that the general fund is 17 <br />doing better year to date in the first six months than in 2002 but cautioned that the final picture 18 <br />may not be as rosy as last year due to the decrease in LGA expected in the second half. 19 <br /> 20 <br />Finance Director Hansen indicated that the Community Center is of concern and noted that the 21 <br />City lost Community Ed as a tenant and is looking for someone to take that space but it may be at 22 <br />a lower rental rate. He then indicated that the banquet center and YMCA results are slightly 23 <br />behind the same period for 2002. 24 <br /> 25 <br />Finance Director Hansen indicated that the golf course is ahead for the first six months of 2003 26 <br />of the same period last year. He then said that last year at this time the golf course had an 27 <br />operating surplus of $3,000 and this year that surplus is $28,000. He further explained that last 28 <br />year the course ended up the year $10,000 over operating expenses but that amount is not nearly 29 <br />enough to begin servicing the debt. He concluded by saying that the trend is positive but there is 30 <br />a long way to go. 31 <br /> 32 <br />Council Member Marty indicated that the City needs to start looking at ways to cut. He then said 33 <br />that other cities are being proactive about the direction city is going to take by holding 34 <br />neighborhood meetings to ask residents what types of services are essential and what types of 35 <br />services can be cut to save money. 36 <br /> 37 <br />Mayor Linke indicated that the City of Mounds View has 48 employees for the entire City and 38 <br />Hopkins public works department has 32 employees for a city the same size as Mounds View so 39 <br />he feels the City is doing a good job of running with fewer employees. 40 <br /> 41 <br />C.
