Item No.7P <br />Type of Business:CB <br />WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing; <br />CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Givonna Reed, Assistant to the City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Consideration of Resolution 5739 Hiring David <br />Longville as the Golf Course Manager <br />Date of Report: March 21, 2002 <br /> <br />Upon direction from the City Council to proceed with hiring for the Golf Course <br />Manager position, staff advertised the position and received approximately 30 <br />applications. Mary Burg, General Manager for Brightwood Hills, assisted in <br />interviewing six candidates for the position. Second interviews were held for the <br />top two candidates. Mr. David Longville was unanimously selected as the most <br />ideal candidate. <br /> <br />Mr. Longville is a Certified Golf Course Superintendent with 17 years of <br />experience. He holds Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and <br />Management (College of St. Thomas) and a Bachelor of Science in <br />Environmental Horticulture with an emphasis in Turf Management (University of <br />Minnesota). Mr. Longville currently works for a golf course in Illinois and has <br />served as Golf Course Superintendent at a course in Altoona, WI and as <br />Assistant Superintendent at the White Bear Yacht Club. Mr. Longville currently <br />manages a private course with an annual maintenance budget of $600,000. He <br />has extensive experience developing and monitoring budgets and managing <br />personnel. <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the Council appoint Mr. Longville as the new Golf Course <br />Manager with the following compensation schedule: <br /> <br />• Step 4 ($62,700) to start <br />• Step 5 ($66,000) after one year of employment pending satisfactory <br />performance <br /> <br />The recommendation to start Mr. Longville at step 4 is based on his extensive <br />experience in similar positions. <br /> <br />If appointed, Mr. Longville would be moving his family from Illinois to the metro <br />area. Staff recommends that the Council provide moving expenses comparable <br />to what has been provided in the past to department heads who relocated upon <br />being hired by the City.
