Item No: 8H <br />Meeting Date: April 22, 2002 <br />Type of Business: Council Business City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: James Ericson, Community Development Director <br />Item Title/Subject: Second Reading and Adoption of Ordinance 699, an <br />Ordinance Amending Section 1006.04 of the Mounds <br />View City Code Pertaining to Certificates of Occupancy <br />in the Commercial and Industrial Zoning Districts <br />Date of Report: April 12, 2002 <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />This item was initially presented to the City Council at the April 1, 2002 worksession and <br />the resulting ordinance received its first reading and introduction at the April 8th meeting. <br /> <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />This ordinance amends the City Code to require a certificate of occupancy for every <br />change in occupancy within the commercial and industrial businesses districts. In <br />addition, the ordinance makes some clarifying statements as to the requirements of a <br />certificate of occupancy. <br /> <br />The reasons why this is being put forward for Council review and approval is to protect <br />and safeguard the public health and safety of our volunteer fire fighters, the occupants <br />and employees of the businesses, as well as any members of the general public whose <br />health may be put at risk due to insufficient or inadequate fire suppression or delayed <br />response times resulting form inaccurate business contact information. <br /> <br />Staff has been in contact with some of the leasing agents and property managers for the <br />business parks and the retail shopping centers.
