Item No. 6E
Type of Business: CA
WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing;
CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Greg Lee, Director of Public Works
Item Title/Subject: Resolution No. 5790 Approving the Contract
Award for the repair of the City owned Sewer
Televising Camera
Meeting Date: June 24, 2002
Background:
Annually, the City budgets for funds to finance repairs of wastewater equipment.
These include the jetter truck, generator, and sewer-televising camera.

Discussion:
The City’s sewer-televising camera sewer recently developed an operational
problem whereby a picture was no longer being relayed. The camera was sent to
Qcues Company to have them diagnose the problem. The sewer camera is a
highly specialized piece of equipment built by and originally purchased from the
Qcues Company. Its value is estimated to be approximately $25,000. The Qcues
Company, being the manufacture and distributor, is the only known company
capable of servicing this particular camera. The Qcues Company has performed
satisfactory maintenance and repair work on this camera in the past.

The Qcues Company has diagnosed the camera and determined that a seal had
failed, causing water damage to internal components. The estimated cost to
repair the damage is $2,700.

The 2002 adopted budget has $2,000 in funds allocated to repairs of wastewater
equipment. The remaining amount of $700 will be derived from wastewater
operating and equipment budgets (Account No. 730-4826-1600 and 730-4826-
1230 respectively).

Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve a contract with the Qcues
Company in the estimated amount of $2,700 to repair the City owned sewer
televising camera.

Respectfully Submitted,

Greg Lee, Director of Public Works
