9

COMMUNITY CENTER
The surveillance equipment at the Community Center appears to be serving its purpose. Staff
reports that they are encountering less extensive damage. What damage is occurring has been in
areas that are not monitored by the cameras. Staff has and will continue to encourage the YMCA
to have someone patrol the Community Center and make themselves visible at all times.

FESTIVAL IN THE PARK
The Festival in the Park was held the weekend of June 15th. The event went very well, however it
appeared to be scaled down from previous years.

PARKS
Recently there has been an increase in vandalism and graffiti in the City’s Parks. The amount of
litter that is generated is also on the rise. City staff will be discussing this with the Parks and
Recreation Commission in an effort to formulate ideas on how to address this issue.

TRUNK HIGHWAY10 INTERREGIONAL MANAGEMENT PLAN
On May 9, 2002, Public Works sent letter to Elizabeth Colburn, Senior Transportation Planner,
who is administrating the Trunk Highway 10 Management Plan. Mn/DOT was also copied on this
letter. This letter contained Resolution No. 5745, which outlined issues that the Council wanted
addressed prior to giving approval to the plan. Ms. Colburn and Mn/DOT have not responded.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES

PUBLIC WORKS OPEN HOUSE FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN
On May 24 and 31, approximately 200 1st, 2nd and 3rd Graders from Pinewood Elementary
toured the Water Treatment Plant and Public Works Garage. In groups of 12 or 24, the children
came through these areas with many questions and “oohs and aahs”. They all enjoyed a glass of
juice and a cookie and received recycling pencils and Public Works rulers. Bill Hanson gave the
tour of the Treatment Plant and Pete Szurek and Mike Schnur explained to the children the many
different areas that Public Works is involved with and what some of the equipment was used for.
(The children thought the camera used to televise sewer was pretty neat - that is, until they found
out where it went……… “eeww!”)

CONSUMER CONFIDENT REPORT (CCR)
In April, the Consumer Confident Report (CCR), regarding the City’s water and related
information, was initiated. SL-serco worked again with the City to compile the information that
was provided by the Minnesota Department of Health. Final draft went to the printer on May 17
and they were mailed to each water consumer in Mounds View on June 4. As per the Minnesota
Department of Health, these reports must be in the consumer’s hands by July 1.

RECYCLING REPORT
As per the SCORE Grant, the first half of the 2002 Recycling Report is due in July to Ramsey
County. Monthly tonnage recycling reports are submitted by the individual haulers and are
entered into a database that is used to provide Ramsey County with required information. On
May 4, the Spring Cleanup Day was conducted. Over 400 cars came through the Public Works
lot, disposing of many old appliances, batteries, brush, and tires. Spring Cleanup Day was a
definite success!

HVAC SYSTEM
The new HVAC computer software has been installed and training has been completed. Since
the installation of this software, the HVAC System has been functioning perfectly. Service and
repair calls have all but been eliminated and technical difficulties have been greatly reduced. Staff
