Item No. 06B
Meeting Date: July 8, 2002
Type of Business:CA
WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing;
CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Givonna Reed, Assistant City Administrator
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 5801 Authorizing and Pledging Support for
Voting Equipment Grant Application
Date of Report: July 3, 2002

As the Council is aware, this year the City will begin a five-year payment plan to
purchase five new ballot counters. The Secretary of State’s Office is currently
considering applications for matching funds to purchase elections equipment. Originally
staff was advised that the City did not qualify for grant funds because the grant could not
be used to reimburse cities for funds already committed to purchasing new elections
equipment. Staff was later advised that there was a chance that the City might receive
some reimbursement funds for equipment already ordered. As a result, an application
was submitted to the state for reimbursement of 50% ($7,650) of the purchase price for
ballot counters for the City’s three new precincts.

The attached resolution must be submitted to the Secretary of State’s Office July 9, 2002
if the Council wishes the City to be considered for this grant.

If you have questions about this item please call me at 763.717.4008.

Respectfully Submitted,

Givonna Reed
