Item No. 7B Type of Business: CB WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing; CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Greg Lee, Director of Public Works Item Title/Subject: 2002 Well Rehabilitation Project Resolution No. 5877 Approve the Plans and Specifications Set a Bid Date of December 3, 2002 Meeting Date: November 12, 2002 Background: The City established a maintenance program whereby the wells would be evaluated and rehabilitated on a seven-year cycle. A longer period of eleven years was attempted; however, it was discovered that this period was too long to identify minor problems and correct them before they became major replacements. Wells Number 1 and 2 were last rehabilitated in 1995. Based on the seven-year evaluation schedule, they are therefore due for rehabilitation this year. Wells Number 3 and 5 were last done in 1997 and are scheduled for rehabilitation in 2004. Discussion: On October 28, 2002, the City Council authorized the preparation of construction plans and specifications for the 2002 Well Rehabilitation Project; this includes both Wells Number 1 and 2. Plans and Specifications – Staff has prepared plans and specifications that meet the City of Mounds View’s standards and are consistent with specifications utilized for other recent well rehabilitation projects. The specifications are not attached to this report; however, they will be available at the November 12, 2002 City Council Meeting. The estimated cost of this project is between $50,000 and $60,000. A more accurate figure could not be obtained due to the uncertainty of what parts may need to be replaced. Funding for this project will be derived from water repairs account of the Enterprise Fund, Account 700-4823-5150.
