Item No. 7B <br />Type of Business: CB <br />WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing; <br />CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Greg Lee, Director of Public Works <br /> <br />Item Title/Subject: 2002 Well Rehabilitation Project <br /> Resolution No. 5877 <br /> Approve the Plans and Specifications <br />Set a Bid Date of December 3, 2002 <br /> <br />Meeting Date: November 12, 2002 <br /> <br />Background: <br />The City established a maintenance program whereby the wells would be <br />evaluated and rehabilitated on a seven-year cycle. A longer period of eleven <br />years was attempted; however, it was discovered that this period was too long to <br />identify minor problems and correct them before they became major <br />replacements. <br /> <br />Wells Number 1 and 2 were last rehabilitated in 1995. Based on the seven-year <br />evaluation schedule, they are therefore due for rehabilitation this year. Wells <br />Number 3 and 5 were last done in 1997 and are scheduled for rehabilitation in <br />2004. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />On October 28, 2002, the City Council authorized the preparation of construction <br />plans and specifications for the 2002 Well Rehabilitation Project; this includes <br />both Wells Number 1 and 2. <br /> <br />Plans and Specifications – Staff has prepared plans and specifications that <br />meet the City of Mounds View’s standards and are consistent with specifications <br />utilized for other recent well rehabilitation projects. The specifications are not <br />attached to this report; however, they will be available at the November 12, 2002 <br />City Council Meeting. <br /> <br />The estimated cost of this project is between $50,000 and $60,000. A more <br />accurate figure could not be obtained due to the uncertainty of what parts may <br />need to be replaced. Funding for this project will be derived from water repairs <br />account of the Enterprise Fund, Account 700-4823-5150. <br /> <br /> <br />
