City of Mounds View <br />Page 9 <br /> <br />(2) Upon purchase or presentation of a current license tag and a receipt for dog <br />license for the current year and for the fees provided for in subdivision 6b <br />hereof, the Point shall release to any owner the dog claimed by him upon <br />adequate proof of ownership. <br /> <br />(3) Disposition of unredeemed animals: Any dog which is not redeemed within <br />the time allowed by this Chapter may be sold for not less than the amount <br />provided in “Fees” above, to anyone desiring to purchase the same, if not <br />requested by a licensed education or scientific institution under Minnesota <br />Statutes 35.71. All sums received above the costs and tax shall be placed by <br />the clerk in the general fund of the city. Any dog, which is not claimed by the <br />owner or sold, shall be disposed of. <br /> <br />(4) Time for redemption: All impounded dogs shall be redeemed within five (5) <br />days, not including Sundays or legal holidays, after the same was impounded. <br />Any such animal not redeemed within such time may be sold, destroyed or <br />otherwise disposed of. <br /> <br />(5) Summary destruction of dogs: Any dog which is not claimed or redeemed as <br />provided in subdivision (4) above within five (5) days after impounding, may <br />be sold at a fair and reasonable price to anyone desiring to purchase the dog if <br />not requested by a licensed educational or scientific institution under <br />Minnesota Statutes 35,71. All sums received above the costs and license fee <br />shall be held by the Clerk-Administrator for the benefit of the owner and, if <br />not claimed in one year, such funds shall be placed in the General Fund of the <br />Municipality. Any dog, which is not claimed by the owner or sold, shall be <br />painlessly killed and disposed of by the Pound. <br /> <br />(6) Guard dogs: <br /> <br />(a) Businesses located within the City and maintaining a guard dog for <br />security purposes shall post notice at the entrance to the premises of <br />the presence of said dog. <br /> <br />(b) Businesses maintaining a guard dog shall file with the City a release <br />authorizing the Police or Fire Department to shoot said dog in an <br />emergency situation, if necessary, in order to allow a police officer or <br />firefighter to gain admittance to the premises in the performance of <br />his/her duties.
