ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION <br /> 1997 WORK PLAN <br /> Mission Statement: <br /> The Economic Development Commission shall serve as an advisory body to the Economic Development Authority to promote a positive economic <br /> climate and revitalize the community by developing programs to retain and expand existing businesses,attract desirable new businesses,and <br /> redevelop target areas in the City. <br /> Action Steps: <br /> • Review and make recommendations to the EDA on programs and opportunities to enhance business development. <br /> • Advocate for an approved Redevelopment Plan for Highway 10,Section 9 and encourage further study and planning for the entire <br /> Highway 10 Corridor as an important element in the positive economic vitality of Mounds View. Continue to act as the catalyst for and <br /> provide input on the development of a Corridor redevelopment plan. <br /> • Monitor and provide input on the Mounds View Housing Replacement Program. Ensure that the program continues to provide the <br /> community with affordable and life cycle housing and positive economic growth and meets the requirements of Mounds View's Tax <br /> Increment Plan. <br /> • Research innovative programs of other metro area cities as it relates to development,redevelopment and housing rehabilitation. <br /> • Work cooperatively with the Planning Commission in evaluating design standards for new development and redevelopment in the City. <br /> • • Develop and make recommendations to the Economic Development Authority for a Tax Increment Financing Policy. <br /> • Actively participate in retention calls to local businesses. <br /> • Explore opportunities for improvement of the public transit system along Highway 10. <br /> • Communicate on a regular basis with the public on the Economic Development Commission activities,encouraging written or verbal <br /> comment, through the City Newsletter,cable and other interactive avenues. <br /> • <br />
