Mounds View Planning Commission
Regular Meeting
October 1, 2008
Page 3
Planning Associate Heller stated the lot may have been full because of the overlap of an event and
the park and ride. The park and ride has 43 spots in the front lot but the lot behind the Mermaid
could have been empty.
Commissioner Walsh-Kaczmarek asked if the park and ride was going to be eliminated.
Planning Associate Heller stated that neither staff nor the Planning Commission has required that the
park and ride be removed at this point, although the City Council could make that recommendation.
Staff noted that businesses would only hurt their own operations by not having sufficient parking.
Planning Associate Heller stated the resolution before the Planning Commission tonight is for the
revised preliminary plat only.
MOTION/SECOND: Commissioner Gunn/Commissioner Lang. To approve Resolution 895-
08, a Resolution Recommending Approval of a Revised Preliminary Plat for The Mermaid, 2200
County Highway 10 as Amended; Mounds View Planning Case MA2008-001
Ayes —6 Nays — 0 Motion carried.
6. Other Planning Activity
A. 2008 Comprehensive Plan Update
Community Development Director Roberts stated since the last meeting there was a mailing to
the Planning Commission with updated documents and information for the comprehensive plan.
He stated there were no new documents in this packet. He stated the City is waiting on the
transportation and public facilities chapters that are being reviewed by the City Engineering
consultant.
Chair Stevenson indicated he has gone through the new plan thoroughly and asked that the page
numbering be similar to the numbering system of the city code. He stated he has studied the
maps and indicated they are great. He questioned the existing land use map and the missing
designation of developable residential lots. He suggested a different color or hash marks to assist
in designating the developable lots.
Community Development Director Roberts stated the future land use map should remain the
same. He suggested creating another map and having the whole map white except for the
developable lots and making them a different color or hash marks. He asked if the map should
be just residential or both residential and commercial.
Chair Stevenson stated the commercial and industrial lots are well designated on the existing
maps.
Commissioner Walsh-Kaczmarek questioned the natural features on the new map compared to
the old map. She noticed a few of the natural resources were missing or smaller on the new map.
