Mounds View Planning Commission October 3, 2001
Regular Meeting Page 3
________________________________________________________________________

Commissioner Hegland indicated that any commercial usage should be reviewed no matter what
zoning it is in.

Commissioner Miller noted that religious institutions are located in an R-1 district and should be
reviewed.

Commissioner Miller indicated she felt the language on Page 2 of the Brooklyn Park Ordinance
is cumbersome as it lists too many items.

Chair Stevenson suggested exempting single family and twin home usage.

Planner Atkinson indicated he would put together wording and bring it to a future meeting for
review.
______________________________________________________________________________

5. Staff Reports

a. Previous Council Action

Community Development Director Ericson reported that staff had asked Council for abatement
of 8217 Long Lake Road but Council tabled the matter to the October 8, 2001 Council meeting
as there is a purchase agreement in progress and the City wanted to allow time for that to be
finalized.

Director Ericson reported that the EDA called to order at the work session and voted to approve
the sale of property located at 2625 County Highway 10 to the Mounds View Animal Hospital.
He then noted that MV Animal Hospital expects to begin construction within the next three
weeks.

Director Ericson reported that the Mermaid development is moving forward and hopes to have
the banquet facility open for the end of the year. He then noted that the City is close to finalizing
a development assistance agreement that would bring the long process of this project to closure.

Director Ericson reported that the City is having an issue with two Sysco billboards that were
constructed last year as the City approved the billboards on the condition that they be constructed
the same as the billboards approved for the golf course. He then noted that the billboards are not
what the City approved and Council has invited the sign company to a work session to discuss
the matter.

Director Ericson reported that the Highway 10 project team meeting will be held on October 10,
2001 at 6:00 at City Hall. He also reported that the open house public meeting will be held on
October 15, 2001 at the Community Center at 6:00 p.m. He then asked that residents attend to
hear the presentations to be made by the consultants and provide input on the project.

Commissioner Miller asked if the public meeting would be televised.
