Head Reports Finance Director Brager reviewed the tax rates in Mounds View and compared them to other suburban communities in the area. The new tax capacity method resulted in a reduction of 2.2 mils for 1989 over 1988. He also presented overheads and reviewed the percentages of where tax dollars go, as well as reviewing the changes in two separate residents in the City in the past year. Mayor Hankner suggested the charts be published in the City newsletter for the residents to review. Mayor Hankner explained Sunnyside School is willing 11. Consideration to do a good deal of publicity on recycling and of Grant to they will be devoting a week in April to this topic, Sunnyside and she requested Council authorization of a $375.00 Elementary grant for the school, with the funds to be used for School the cost of a speaker to come in and address the students. • Mayor Hankner stated she had talked somewhat to Pinewood School about this but she has to get back to them. There is $1,000 in the fund for youth development, which is for community service type activities with the students. Councilmember Wuori suggested checking and seeing if the speaker could also do Pinewood School. She volunteered to contact the science teacher there and try to coordinate this. Motion/Second: Hankner/Blanchard to spend $375.00 from Account No. 100-4100-390, for the recycling project within the elementary schools, Sunnyside and Pinewood. 4 ayes 0 nays Motion Carried It was the consensus of the Council that if the speaker was not able to do both schools at the same time, that the previous motion would be applicable to Sunnyside School only. Mayor Hankner stated she would find out the exact date at Sunnyside and let Councilmember Wuori know • so she can convey it to Pinewood.
