Mounds View City Council July 24, 1989
Regular Meeting Page Twelve
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mayor Hankner explained the City is willing to
commit $16,350 toward the installation of utilities,
and that is what the City can afford. The Council
will work with the Lions Club and try to come up with
a method to pay for it.
Mr. Linke stated the Lions Club would be meeting
on July 27 and would like to know the Council's
position. Mayor Hankner explained the City can only
commit $16,350~for installing utilities. She added
they_wi11 direct,,staff to_get,actual'costs., so they_
know exactly what they are working with.
Councilmember Blanchard stated the Park and Rec
Commission had recommended the City fund the entire
amount for the installation of utilities.
Wayne Burmeister, Chair of the Park and Rec Commission,
explained the money is in the account presently, but
with the Oakwood improvements and culvert for Silver
View Park, there would not be adequate funds left.
Clerk/Administrator Pauley reviewed the balance of
the fund, stating there is only $15,000 that is not
committed at this time.
Mayor Hankner reviewed what the City has committed to
in the parks area.
Ms. Saarion explained what the arsenal proposal is,
and the commitment of the City.
Mayor Hankner explained a formal commitment was made
last February, on the arsenal project, and the City
would have to rescind that action if they do not want
to follow through with it now. She added it is
difficult to make a commitment at this time with the
status of the tax bill, and the Council needs to be
conservative with the money the City has.
Councilmember Quick stated he felt it was prudent for
the Council to take this action, and not commit at
this time to more than they have the funds available
for. He added they do not know what the cost is going
to be for the utilities.
Motion: Quick to call for the question.
• 3 ayes 2 nays Motion Carried
Councilmembers Blanchard and Paone voted against the
motion.
