Item No.8D &E
Type of Business:CA
WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing;
CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Bill Clark, Chief of Police
Item Title/Subject: Resolutions 5532 and 5533 Authorizing the Hiring
of Two Police Officers
Date of Report: February 26, 2001

HIRING OF NEW POLICE OFFICERS:

The Police Lieutenant position had been vacant from April 2000 until Tim
Brennan was promoted to Lieutenant at the February 12, 2001 City Council
meeting. This promotion, and the creation of the School Resource Office
position (which will be filled by a veteran officer) have caused two vacancies in
the Police Department.

The City Council has accepted the list of three candidates certified by the Police
Civil Service Commission. The next step in this process would be for the City
Council to choose two names from the eligibility list. The names of the two
individuals selected by the Council would be inserted into resolutions 5532 and
5534 and these individuals would begin employment with the City within 30 days.

RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Council consider the eligibility list presented by the
Police Civil Service Commission and select two individuals to fill the two
vacancies in the Police Department.
