Item No. 7D
Type of Business: CA
WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing;
CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: William A. Clark, Chief of Police
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 5545 Patrol Car Purchase
Date of Report: August 29, 2018

PATROL CAR PURCHASE:
The Police Department is scheduled by budget allocation to purchase one new
police vehicle this year. The State bid was found for both Ford and Chevrolet.
The Chevrolet is almost two thousand dollars cheaper than the Ford.

Last year the Department purchased two Chevrolets and they have worked out
very well. The Chevrolets produce considerably better gas mileage than the
Fords, saving the city money above the purchase price.

The Department would like to order a new Chevrolet. The state bid was awarded
to Hinckley Chevrolet in Hinckley. The state bid price is $19,275.00 plus tax and
license. As was the case last year with the federal bid, Polar Chevrolet has
offered us the state bid price and included additional options on the vehicle for
the same price. Polar is a local dealer, located in White Bear Lake, rather than
removed from us by distance.

I have contacted finance and found that as long as state bid is the basis, we can
purchase the vehicle elsewhere citing the price. The order deadline for cruiser
bids is April 6, 2001.

RECOMMENDATION:
The Department recommends that we purchase the new cruiser from Polar
Chevrolet at the state bid price of $19,275.00 plus tax and license. We will
receive additional options on the vehicle and continue to receive excellent
service from a local dealer.

Respectfully Submitted,

___________________________
William A.
