Item No.9D
Type of Business: CA
WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing;
CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: William A. Clark, Chief of Police
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 5564 Authorizing the Purchase of Firearms
Date of Report: August 29, 2018

PURCHASE OF STANDARDIZED POLICE FIREARMS:
On May 14th, 2000 standardization of police firearms was listed as one
of the goals and objectives of the police department in its annual
report. Subsequent discussions by the City Council resulted in
direction to pursue this goal. Money to fund the purchase of
standardized firearms for 20 officers was budgeted for 2001. Officers
on the police department were given the opportunity to test numerous
makes and models of firearms prior to making a recommendation for
purchase. After testing, a majority vote of officers resulted in the
recommendation of the Beretta .40 caliber, model 96F sidearm with 3-
magazines and night sights. Sealed bids were solicited from four
Beretta firearm suppliers, with Streicher’s Police Supply providing the
lowest bid for the purchase of twenty of said firearms.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Council approve the purchase of twenty
firearms from Streicher’s Police Supply Company.

Respectfully Submitted,

___________________________
William A. Clark
Chief of Police
