Item No: 7B <br />Meeting Date: May 29, 2001 <br />Type of Business: <br />WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing; <br />CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business <br /> <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor & City Council <br />From: James Ericson, Community Development Director <br />Item Title/Subject: Second Reading and Adoption of Ordinance 680, an <br />Ordinance Vacating an Unused Section of Highway <br />Easement Associated with the Redfield Minor <br />Subdivision. <br />Date of Report: May 23, 2001 <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The City Council approved a minor subdivision of properties located at 8360 Pleasant View <br />Drive and 8360 Spring Lake Road for Stephen Redfield. One of the conditions of the <br />approval was that the excess highway easement be vacated to create a lot consistent with <br />and similar to the dimensions of the adjoining lots on either side of the new lot fronting <br />Pleasant View Drive. The Council held a public hearing and approved the first reading and <br />introduction of Ordinance 680 along with the resolution approving the minor subdivision on <br />May 14, 2001. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />As the Council is aware, Ordinance 680 has been drafted to vacate the unused portion of <br />Pleasant View Drive which was originally granted to the City via a Highway Easement <br />dedicated in 1975. Staff is not aware as to the reason for the excessive right of way <br />granted on this lot when other lots subdivided in this area provide for a more conventional <br />pattern of right of way dedication. There is no public purpose associated with this area <br />which would warrant retention of this roadway easement. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff and the Planning Commission recommend approval of the second reading and <br />approval of Ordinance 680, an ordinance which vacates the unused and excess portion <br />of Pleasant View Drive roadway easement originally granted to the City via Highway <br />Easement 608071. <br /> <br /> <br />_____________________________________ <br />James Ericson <br />Community Development Director <br /> <br />N:\DATA\GROUPS\COMDEV\Development Cases\MI01-001, VA01-001 (Redfield)\CC Report - May 29, 2001.doc
