Item No.7 Type of Business:
WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing;
CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Givonna Reed, Assistant to the City Administrator
Item Title/Subject: Discussion Regarding Payments to Golf Professionals for
Golf Lessons
Date of Report: June 18, 2001

The Council will recall that several months ago during discussions regarding the proposed golf
course expansion and the feasibility study there was some discussion about revenues generated
from lessons given by golf course staff.
During these discussions staff and Council Members became aware of a 70/30 policy that’s used
to compensate golf pros at the Bridges. According to this policy golf pros receive 70% of lesson
fees and the City receives the remaining 30%. In an email to me (see attached) John
Hammerschmidt indicated that this 70/30 policy was approved by the City Council, however, staff
has been unable to find documentation to this effect and some members of the Council have
indicated that they do not remember such a policy being adopted.

Staff is seeking direction from the Council regarding whether the Council wishes to continue using
this policy or have staff explore other options.

Respectfully Submitted

Givonna Reed
