•
Mounds View City Council
Regular Meeting
Page 12
February 27, 1995
Assistant/Teaching Pro for the past six years. He also has
related experience with the New Hope Village Golf Course as a
Teaching Pro and with the Woodbury Golf and Fitness Club.
References have been checked and .were found to be
satisfactory. It is recommended that the hire of Brus von
Ende be contingent upon successful completion of a physical
examination and the standard drug and alcohol test.
MOTION/SECOND: Quick/Trude to Adopt Resolution No. 4717,
Hiring of Golf Course Club House ManagerjInstructor
Councilmember Trude was impressed by the fact that Mr. von
Ende has never received a negative letter during his career of
teaching golf.
Tom Garside, Shoreview, advised that he was one of the
unsuccessful candidates for this position and the reason he
attended this meeting was to make himself available for any
questions from the Council. He felt the interviewing session
only afforded him the opportunity to make a general impression
of himself and did not enable him to show his expertise in the
field of golf course management.
Councilmember Hankner inquired as to the qualifications of the
interviewing panel.
Mary Saarion, Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry,
commented that she has worked in the field for many years and
Kurt Johnson, Golf Course Superintendent, has been employed as
a golf course manager as well as a golf course superintendent.
The emphasis of this position was on the teaching professional
aspect because the golf course has the potential to bring in
not only beginners, but others interested in taking lessons.
Hankner requested clarification as to who served on the
interview panel.
Cruikshank again reported that the panel consisted of himself,
Mary Saarion, and Kurt Johnson.
Hankner said she had genuine concerns regarding the overall
management of the golf course and felt that a golf pro should
have been included on the interview panel.
Mayor Linke expressed his confidence in the choice of
individuals that had been hired to date to manage the golf
course. He also commented that marketing skills were a very
important qualification for this position as well as teaching
skills.
