COUNCIL BUSINESS:
Mayor McCarty asked that Item 7 (E) be brought forward at this time.
E. Review of Anoka County-Blaine Airport Long-Term Plan and City of Mounds View Proposed
Legislation in Regards to Plan.
Mr. Long, City Attorney, explained that at the last meeting, the City Council gave the staff and attorney
authorization to seek legislation on the airport matter. He has been in contact with both Senator Novak's
office and Representative Geri Evan's office and they both have agreed to offer legislative bills which
would clarify a previous amendment which stated that public funds could not be expended from any source
for construction or planning to upgrade a minor use airport to an intermediate airport. Attorney Long
stated he intends to keep the Council updated in regazd to this matter.
Mayor McCarty stated he felt it may be helpful to send the proposed legislation to the cities that surround
the airport and ask them if they are in support of the legislation. If they do support it, a meeting could be
held with them to decide how the cities could help get the legislation through. It was the consensus of the
Council that this should be done. Mayor McCarty took this opportunity to thank Mr. Long for providing
the council with direction on this issue.
A.
