Q1 <br />• School speed zones are typically defined by <br />a supplemental plaque defined by "when <br />children are present", "when flashing" or for <br />specific time periods during the school day. <br />• Typically installed near schools with crosswalks. <br />• Help educate drivers about the potential for <br />school children. <br />• Enforcement of speeds will yield better <br />compliance. <br />24 DECEMBER 2017 1 LOCAL ROAD RESEARCH BOARD <br />Effectiveness <br />• Volumes: No change in volume <br />• Speeds: Lower speeds with enforcement and <br />potential sign enhancements <br />• Safety: Potentially improved driver behavior in <br />school zones. <br />
