Moums VfE_W
City of Mounds View Staff R
Item No: 05D
Meeting Date: July 9, 2018
Type of Business: Consent
Administrator Review:
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Nyle Zikmund, City Administrator
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8986 PW Technology
Introduction:
Public Works has been engaged in software/technology upgrades specific to Asset
Management to aid in the inventory, management, and maintenance of our multi-million
dollars investment in streets, municipal water utilities, storm and sanitary sewer utilities,
parks, trees, etc. To that end, both Director Peterson and Administrator Zikmund had
probation requirements specific to addressing this issue.
Discussion:
To that end, Director Peterson and Administrator Zikmund have met and discussed
options and with the recent hire of Jacob Garoby as our GIS Technician he discovered
that our exiting ESRI GIS ArcView® software has the ability and functionality to custom
build forms and tables, all which can be accessed via the web to authorized individuals,
everything we need. The software also is able to generate and track work orders.
Since we already are licensed and skilled in this use, implementation is conditional on
adding 6 more licenses for an estimated cost of $24300, additional smart phones to be
phased in within the current and proposed operating budget, and purchase of a high
quality GPS device to accurately (within inches) locate latitude/longitude coordinates for
those assets crucial such as water valves. Devices of this sophistication range from
$7,000 to $9,000.
Director Peterson provided the Council an overview at the July 2, 2018 workshop with
consensus to proceed via the consent agenda for the first two items and upon purchase
of the GPS Unit, Council Business. This resolution covers the license and phone
Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution 8986 authorizing additional ArcView® Licenses not to exceed $2,300
and purchase additional smart phones and plans as needed and within the current
2018 adopted budget and 2019 proposed/adopted budget.
Respectfully submitted,
A"4 21d
Ny1,(fZikry6nd
City Administrator
