July 5, 2018
TO: Mayor, City Council Members and City Staff
RE: Follow up on the proposed Kwik Trip site
I attended the neighbor meeting about the proposed Kwik Trip. Ninety five percent of the people
there were opposed to this. At the end of the meeting, the VP of Kwik Trip said " I don't feel the
love and I was thinking about canceling my proposal". I went to the City Council meeting on
Monday; and I was very surprised to hear that they were still considering Kwik Trip. There was
a proposal to get access to Hwy 10 and move Kwik Trip on that site. I believe there would still
be the same problems for the neighborhood and surrounding businesses. (Super America,
Holiday, Tobacco Store in the mall, and Aldi's all would be hurt. The owner of the BP stat d th t
he would close his store down.
e a
Mounds View already has many places closed; the liquor store, the restaurant in the mall,
Snyder's drug store, and the Tom Thumb store next to The Station has been closed for years.
This is not a good image for the city.
I believe the apartment (only) building proposal would be a better option because they would
bring more people into our city and, that would give a boost to all the businesses on Hwy 10.
With more people in the city, maybe we could reopen the restaurant in the mall. Wouldn't it be a
better option to get a little less money for the property, by doing the apt (only) proposal to
secure the success of the businesses already in place and not hurt them?
I do appreciate the support the City Council and staff have given The Station over the years.
Sincerely,
W
Leon M Theis
The Station
