MoUN__DsV! _EW <br />City of Mounds We w Staff Report <br />Item No 81 <br />Meeting Date: Sept. 10, 2018 <br />Type of Business: CB <br />Administrator Review. <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Nyle Zikmund, City Administrator <br />Item T itic/Sulbject: Resolution 9016 Charter Commission Appointments <br />Introduction: <br />The Charter Commission was established in 1980 after two years of meetings by <br />concerned citizens that crafted and drafted a City Charter that was presented and <br />approved by the majority of voters. In its original form, the Charter had 15 members but <br />was subsequently amended down to 9. Four of those nine members' terms expires on <br />October 31, 2018. <br />Those four are; <br />Bill Doty <br />Brandon Clawson <br />Marisa Reyes -Johnson <br />Greg Oberg <br />As council is aware, finding residents to serve has been challenging. Additionally, as <br />you are aware the 10th Judicial District Court advertises for and appoints Charter <br />Commission members. In speaking with the Court Administrator Luke Gosselin, he has <br />informed me that as of September 5, 2018, no individuals have filed for service. In <br />reaching out to the four members whose terms have expired I received positive <br />affirmations from Brandon Clawson and Marisa Reyes -Johnson. Multiple (minimum of <br />5) phone calls to remaining members has not yielded any response. <br />Discussion: <br />Given the importance of the Commission I have reached out to other residents whom <br />have served the community on other boards or organizations and shared the <br />commitment and duties but have yet to hear back from any of the three of them by the <br />deadline for packet materials but may by Council meeting Monday night. <br />Recommendation: <br />Adopt Resolution 9016 requesting the court to appoint the individuals detailed in the <br />resolution. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />%X <br />VL, ,--7 a <br />Nyle/Kiki-6did <br />City Administrator <br />
