Staff is recommending the purchase of a dump truck equipped with <br />snow removal equipment for 1996. This truck will be necessary when <br />the turnbacks are effective. With the additional mileage the city would <br />then have a ratio of 1 piece of equipment for every 10 miles of street. <br />Although this is considered a very good service level, only two <br />vehicles can apply chemicals. <br />Major breakdowns of equipment during snow storms can provide <br />hazardous conditions for motorist. This has not been the case with the <br />current equipment, but as snow removal equipment ages, it's reliability <br />is lessened. The ability to create safe driving conditions, is a major <br />concern of staff. The City currently does not have enough snow <br />removal equipment should one breakdown. Ramsey County used four <br />4) units to plow Mounds View. <br />Staff ,reeks Council direction in regards to accepting or declining <br />Ramsey County's contract maintenance agreement.
