CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />Resolution 5426 <br />A Resolution of Appreciation <br />for Congressman Bruce Vento <br />WHEREAS, The Mounds View City Council wishes to thank Congressman Bruce <br />Vento for his years of service to our community and District Four, and recognize <br />his contributions to his district and our Nation, the City Council hereby notes his <br />achievements: <br />Congressman Vento has represented Mounds View in Congressional <br />District 4 serving continuously since 1977 in the U.S. House of Representatives, <br />and has taken a leadership role on environmental, housing and banking reform <br />issues. He was Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on National <br />Parks, Forests and Public Lands for over ten years where his strong leadership <br />resulted in protecting hundreds of thousands of acreage and the enactment of <br />over 300 laws preserving the environment from the Boundary Waters Canoe <br />Area Wilderness to the Minnesota National Wildlife Refuge to new parks and <br />wilderness in Alaska and the American Samoa. He has served as a strong <br />conservationist on the Resources Subcommittees on National Parks and Public <br />Lands, and Fisheries Conservation, Wildlife and Oceans. <br />Congressman Vento has served on the Banking and Financial Services <br />Committee and is the Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Financial <br />Institutions and Consumer Credit. He has been extensively involved in the <br />enactment of major banking laws including legislation to strengthen deposit <br />insurance protections, permit banks to merge and branch on a national basis and <br />to modernize our financial services industry while protecting consumer privacy. <br />He chaired the House Task Force in the aftermath of the Savings and Loans <br />crisis. He is the acknowledged Congressional leader on homeless issues, and <br />has served on the Housing and Community Opportunity Subcommittee. <br />Congressman Vento's leadership and legislative contributions in <br />Congress have earned him significant awards and recognition from the National <br />Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare; Common Cause <br />Minnesota; League of Conservation Voters; Concord Coalition; National Council <br />of Senior Citizens; National Taxpayer's Union; Sierra Club; St. Paul Chamber of <br />Commerce; American Legion; Minnesota Peace and Police Officers Association; <br />and the National Alliance to End Homelessness, among others. He has also <br />received the Wilderness Society's prestigious Ansel Adams Award and the <br />
