Item No: 8C <br />Meeting Date: November 13, 2018 <br />MoS VIEW Type of Business: Council Business <br />-- Administrator Review: <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Nate Harder, Chief of Police <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9028, Approving the Hire of Michael Hanson to <br />the Position of Mounds View Police Officer <br />Background: <br />The Police Department has an immediate need to fill one Police Officer position due to <br />the vacancy after sending an officer into the schools as an SRO. A conditional offer was <br />made to Michael Hanson contingent on passing the psych, medical, and background <br />screenings. <br />Discussion: <br />On July 11, 2018 Council approved Resolution 8977 granting approval to appoint a <br />candidate to the position of Police Officer to backfill the patrol position that was sent into <br />the schools as an SRO. <br />At this time, staff would like to offer the vacant position to Michael Hanson. <br />Mr. Hanson successfully passed the required testing procedures, which included an oral <br />board examination and physical agility testing. Mr. Hanson has submitted the background <br />investigation materials, and has successfully completed a physical and psychological <br />examination. Mr. Hanson is currently employed at Carver County as a Deputy and has <br />over four years of service on the job. <br />Staff is requesting to begin employment of Mr. Hanson as a Police Officer on or about <br />December 3, 2018. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends City Council approval of Resolution 9028, a resolution authorizing the <br />hiring of Michael Hanson to the position of Police Officer at Step 2 ($29.33/hour) of the <br />compensation schedule in accordance with the Law Enforcement Labor Services <br />Contract. <br />Respectfully Submitted, <br />Nat Har r <br />Chief of Police <br />
